3 Emerging Female Acts You Must Know

The ingrained misogyny towards women in this industry is a topic that needs to be dealt with sooner than later. All too often, we have witnessed how many female talents have continued to be overlooked in some cases pitted against each other with many believe there can only be one top female amongst the male acts at a go.

However, many of us never allowed this misogynist fog cloud our judgment as from an instant, we were able to identify the angry stylings of Tems, to the talented artistes Cillsoul, Ihcego, Naya Akanji, to mention a few. These women alongside a couple of others have continued to expand the limits of their chosen genres and have over a short time since hitting the limelight, garnered true fans.

Here are 3 emerging female acts you should know today

Cillsoul

Born Chioma Ogbonna, this Lagos-based guitarist and vocal powerhouse.  Cill won the 2019 Accountability Music Award by Accountability Lab and One Campaign and is the founder of the Songwriting Community. Asides releasing her own records, she has also been credited for writing songs for the movie ‘Lara and the Beat’, and is the creator of the official soundtrack of the movie “Miracle” by Belinda Efa. Cill has on numerous songs and covers showcased her impressive vocals.

Her soulful style which was vigorously bared on her song ”Taratata” earned her a spot in my heart, as well as many others, in turn, helping g her garner a tirade of charming fans. Cill boasts an emotion and intensity that’’s hard to come by.

Ihcego

Although underground, Ihcego has over the few years she has been in the game made a mark with her songwriting abilities as well as her unbelievable singing skills. Unlike many of her fellow female artists, Ihcego has majorly relied on her pure musical talent other than her looks. One thing that can not be missed in most of her songs includes depth, control, and soul in her voice. Since first coming across her heart,  her honest and passionate vocals is etched in my memory. Her vocals have since evolved since the release of her EP titled BARE as experienced on every one of her released singles in the past year

Naya Akanji

Naya’s raw oh so passionate vocals is one to never go unnoticed.  She has an EP titled Vivid Emotions with another emerging act Lemar Abdul. Naya caught my attention with the single sometime this year and I have continued to follow her every music move. Her song ”No Words” a soundtrack on the series Phases got me hooked on her and I have not for a moment since then, regretted this decision. Naya’s vocals? Confident, beautiful, and blissful!
