It is no secret that sometimes, creativity may elude a few creatives in the course of their career, and to be honest this set of artiste seem to have settled into this new cosmic plane as many of the projects that have released in the last couple of years have only birthed the disturbing feeling of being thrown in an oasis of emptiness.
Without further ado and in no particular order, here are 5 artistes who have lost their mojo
For an act who successfully churned out hit songs and album, a fact that was duly proven on the 4 amazing albums he released in 5 years, with the climax of it all on ”El-Hadj” an album that got a 4.5 review from me in 2016, Disappointment is an understatement when 4 years later, we were slapped in the faces with the offensively mediocre ”Vibes and Insha Allah.” The EP reeked of mimicries, turbulent emptiness, and was duly stacked with laughable lyrics and featured acts who did more harm for their careers than he did for him.
Yeah yeah, she has managed to remain with her theatrics but who are we kidding, since leaving Mavin, Tiwa has struggled on every front experienced ARTISTES should never have. For one person with a great musical background, it has been disappointment after disappointment with the tirade of bland, half-baked, and blatantly nonchalant records she has continuously released in the last year; Owo Mi Da, 49-99 (a vibe with the production but conflicting and weak lyricism), Girl next door).
At this rate, we may need to acknowledge Olamide’s teleportation powers as he has convincingly and effortlessly perfected fizzling out of our consciousness and back, losing shreds of power every time he did this. With 11 projects from him in 9 years, there is no debate, he is a consistent artiste but what pride is there in consistency, if one consistently churns out below-par projects. The last few years have seen Olamide, barely making any effort with his lyrics birthing an oasis of concern amongst fans he has garnered over the years. We understand family comes first and all, but what more could be more pressing than giving the fans what they really want. Let’s all pray ”999” reaffirms his handle on all things m(h)ojo.
2016, I wrote an article similar to this and had 2Baba’s name on the list and all hell broke loose, years leading up to this, I have on countless occasions been proven right. Yeah, we understand he holds down the legendary spot, but then again, this should in fact improve his music rather than drastically tone it down. ”Warriors” said all that needed to be said and more. However, 2Babahas left an indelible imprint on all our hearts with his old bodies of work, so yeah, he gets a pass.
For some acts who we have previously tasted their musical goodness but somehow slowed things down, we yearn and beg that they make a comeback, this does not in the least apply to Omawumi, as she has on numerous occasions and songs proven, she couldn’t care less about the what she is releasing into the world. Let me ask you did, can you name Omawumi’s last good song? I’ll wait. She has lost her mojo while simultaneously affirming with her releases that her time has passed. Hurts to say this, but we all know it’s true.
