Music use case; Music as a messaging tool

Intentionally using music as a messaging tool is not common among many musicians. The main focus is usually how to make what is in demand. Owing to that videos and audio production seem to get all the good plans first. And the quality of the message has shown a general decline. This piece would be appraising music as a tool for passing on messages. The perspective projected is a use case mainly for key players in music creation processes. The general intention is to sensitize readers to pay attention to more than one use of music. And importantly to throw more light on the need for passing better messages via music.

Music can be described as the arrangement of sounds in a manner that is composed. Music is made through the ”elements of melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre”. All forms of music are capable of conveying messages. However the need music as a business is now the primary concern for most artists.

Music like apps in a phone avail a means of communication between people. We read instruction manuals to get certain information on doing something. Likewise, music should emit worthy and intentional messages to listeners. The brain pays attention to messages of music we listen to just like anything else. After listening to a motivational song or a sad one, does it not weigh on your emotional response?  Recall anytime you may have had to change the next song on your playlist to another. This proves that we have our moods or feelings attached to the music choices we make at one time or the other.

Music is an idea conveying means. When a poet wants to be romantic, they may put their feelings in words. When a musician wants to preach against war, he can make it into a song. Even instrumental songs without backing vocals express different stories, visions, and emotions. If you have ever listened to a song that sounded empty, you should be able to relate by now.

The more we see music as a tool for sending messages, the better we will wield it. There are songs that have contradictory lyrics quotes, too much repetition or a soured theme. Music should be well thought out than those flaws. Music with a message should speak to listeners beyond the surface. Songs that have a well put together message are more likely to have a soul and remain timeless.

To any musician reading this, always consider your music as a messaging tool if you will. Then you’ll easily resort to utilizing its power optimally and conveying quality and intentional messages. Please share your thoughts and comments below.
