Top 5 Music Artists You May Have Forgotten Existed

Over the years, we have been introduced to really talented acts who for a while achieved feats many hope to; top several charts, make the news, and altogether stay in our consciousness. However, many of these act, somehow find it really hard to maintain that star power with some letting the fame get to their heads while other simply succumbed to the sheer pressure of fame and in no time faded into obscurity.

Today, we will be discussing 5 artistes in no particular order, who have since vanished from mainstream consciousness or are still hanging on by a very thin thread.

Krizbeat

Krizbeat

Krizbeat was all many fussed about back in 2016. He produced one of the biggest songs in 2016 ”Pana” then went on to work on several top projects soon gaining massive attention and even snagging several award nominations and even went on to win the ”Best Music Producer” award at the 2017 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. Kriz was the most talked-about young producer for a minute, working with talents across the country and continent until silence suddenly invaded his camp. He went on to produce a couple of other songs and albums and even made an attempt at releasing a new album ”African Time,” an album that should have never left the discomfort of his studio.

Harrysong

I for one thought Harrysong had a handle on fame as he ruled the charts with his numerous hits after hitting mainstream consciousness with the release of his songs ‘I’m In love, Taiye Kehinde.” Harry in no time hit the limelight with the release of the hit song ”Better Pikin.” For what seemed like years,  he became a fave amongst many music lovers, churning out hit songs, co-writing hits, and picking up one or two awards until his career hit a significant bump starting in 2018, which in turn birthed the clown we know today who struggles to make the news for the silliest of things. My perception of him has since shifted from talented, fun artistes to an attention-seeking whore we all have to, unfortunately, deal with now. He recently released a dead on arrival song ”Bumbumbum” and as well as an EP.

Lil Kesh

Once upon a time, Lil Kesh was all over the radio and news. This was a young man with several hits in his bag, top features, bloggers stalking his page, and in a way, one of the few who could give some A-listers a run for their money. Crickets found a way into his camp following his exit from YBNL in 2016 and the once upon a  time raving new young act, who had the entire nation dancing ‘Shoki‘,  who was pacified with the promise of remaining on the YBNL ‘James Bond’ began to fizzle out of mainstream consciousness. Some days, he invokes the music spirit in him and creates when the spirit leads or he is needed on a song, on other days, he stays busy channeling his inner model. So much for the noisy bickering of ‘he is the next rated artiste no one else.”

Iyanya

Iyanya
Iyanya

From winning the MTV Project Fame reality TV show in 2008, Iyanya struggled to remain atop his game hitting the jackpot in 2012 following the release of his hit track ”Kukere,” which went on to top different charts for several weeks, in turn helping him win recognition and award and us a man who only feels sexy when he is half-naked. He went on to release a couple of hit songs before issues started. He signed with Temple management, axed his relationship with Made Men Music which he owned with ex-business partner Ubi Franklin, got into a war of words with Ubi,  had some sort of dealing with Don Jazzy, and most recently was arrested for car theft. As far as music and music business is concerned, Iyanya is hastily fizzling out of our consciousness and he happens to be one artiste I hope finds his way back.

Honorable mentions

Dr. Sid

Kel

Saeon

Omawumi

Chidinma

Di’Ja

Dija
Dija

She had one of the hottest love songs, ‘Awww’ on the radio back in 2014. Di’Ja signed to Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records back in 2014 and went on to feature on a couple of hit tracks churned out by the label. However, in no time, she went on a sabbatical which saw her retuning only to make news in the motherhood and bridal sections of top websites. She has since continued to struggle and has to date failed to create a solo hit track. Di’ja has somehow faded into a relative one-hit-wonder.
